Video games have gained even more popularity with kids as spin-offs of their regular TV show favorites are turned into games, or vice versa. They tend to love them so much that as parents, we want to give them a bubble in which they can escape with their favorite characters undisturbed - and there is no place better than their bedroom. Decorating the room to suit the games they like also makes their little haven more fun.
Depending on the age of the child, you want to decorate the room in such a way that will peak their interest for a while. The room can be redecorated easily and inexpensively; therefore, DIY is a very prudent route to take. It may not be too heavy an expense if you buy smart; the GameStop ad would be a spectacular place to start for inspiration.
There are a number of things to consider when decorating a child’s room; we will get into a few of them below so that you are guided along your DIY decor process.

Establish which game will be your inspiration
Talk to your child first to involve them in the process and to get an idea of what it is they want and how they want it. Knowing which of the many video games your child likes will certainly make the work of decorating the room much easier. If they have a number of favorite games and you want to have a portion of each game, let them pick the most important bits, like their favorite characters in the game, rather than doing a full cast. This will help you zero in on what actually matters overall and also save you some money and time.
1. Use child-friendly bits
If you will be using nails or any other kind of hardware, make sure that they are child safe and will not cause harm to your child. For example, if you have any parts that have corners, make sure you get the covers for them so they do not pose a danger to your child.
2. Keep it simple
Here you want to avoid stuff that’s too busy that may end up overstimulating your child and causing them not to sleep well because there is too much going on. The same with the LED lights; if you use them, try to keep them to a minimum so there isn’t too much going in the room.
3. Do not put too much stuff in there
In the case of figurines, maybe create a cabinet for them or section off a portion of their room to keep them in one place and teach the child to clean up should they take them down. Furthermore, too much stuff in the room will make it feel cluttered, which will, in turn, affect the mood of the child and eventually make the room uncomfortable.
Now the basics are out of the way, let’s look at what kind of stuff you can use to DIY the decor for your little gamer.
(i) Themed Wallpaper/ Posters/ Wall decorations
A lot of stores will have wallpaper that may follow the theme you want to go with. For example, if our gamer is into space and alien games, you can purchase wallpaper with that theme and create a feature wall in their room with that wallpaper. Another option would be to purchase posters about the game and p; youut them up on the walls in their bedroom to add some spunk to it. Wall decorations are easy on your pocket as well.
(ii)Themed linen
This option may be one of the easiest ones if you can find the child’s favorite characters on curtains, sheets, duvets, throws, or blankets. It will also add more color to the whole room and minimize what else you may need to do to create a gamer’s paradise in your child’s room.
(iii) LED lights/ Accent Lighting
Keep the lights and colors to a minimum to avoid overstimulating your child. Go for a color that goes with the theme of the game. This will create the ambiance of being inside the game while also adding a special feel to the overall decor in the room. Accent lighting is lighting that balances/offsets the other lights in the room so that our gamer can have a full-on gaming experience with the right amount of light coming from the screen.
(iv) Make a special shelf
In the event that your child has action figures and other paraphernalia or their video games, create a special spot in their room where all this stuff goes. Make it one with some glass on it even, for some razzle-dazzle. This will be inexpensive and will also just be the one special thing they have in their room that ties into their favorite pastime.
(v) Paint the walls a different color
In line with the overall theme of their favorite game and if your budget allows it, paint the room a different color to bring the theme to life. It does not have to be the whole room, you can do a feature wall where our gamer plays to bring their game to life and create a somewhat immersive experience.
While doing the decor to complement the love of gaming may be fun, do not forget to check that the child is playing age-appropriate games, takes breaks in between, and is not stunted in their social development because they play games too much. You also want to make sure that they have the right chair for comfortable gaming and that the computer they are using and their distance from it are the recommended ones. Furthermore, manage the time they spend playing games so that their schoolwork and other activities in their young lives do not suffer.
