Are you looking at building a crucible that would be able to melt aluminum, gold, and other things? You came to the right place. After digging deep and doing a whole lot of research, I was able to come up with a list of 8 DIY crucible projects that you can make from home.
All you have to do is pick a project and start the making process.
1. How To Make A Crucible
Here’s a guide that will show you how to make a steel crucible. In this guide, the creator was able to make two crucibles, however, the second crucible was more durable than the first one. You should consider making the second one too.
For the second crucible, you will need a drill, angle grinder, 2 bolts, 1 piece of 50 mm (2 inches) pipe, 1 rectangular piece of steel, and a couple of other tools. The making process would take some time to complete, however, this crucible can be used to melt a lot of things.
2. How To Make A Crucible For Melting Gold
Are you looking at making a crucible that would be perfect for melting gold? I found this one while doing research, trust me, you will love it. It is also pretty cheap to make, you won’t have to spend a lot to make this gold melting crucible.
The crucible is made from firebrick, firebricks are not so expensive, using this guide, you can make a lot of little crucibles from just one firebrick. The making process is very easy and can be done by almost any adult.
3. How To Make A Clay Crucible
Are you looking for the perfect crucible for melting aluminum, silver, and copper? I have got you covered. I found this amazing guide that teaches how to make a clay crucible, as simple as this crucible looks, it can be used to melt silver, copper, aluminum, and a couple of other metals.
In this guide, you will find a couple of recipes that you can try out for the build process. The creator had errors trying to put the crucible together, so, brace yourselves because it is going to be a long ride.
4. $0.00 DIY Crucible
Here’s a crucible that costs the creator absolutely nothing to make. He calls it the “poor man's crucible.” This crucible is made from fire extinguishers, the making process is quite easy to follow. The creator did a great job of breaking down the process.
For those of you concerned about what this crucible can melt, it can melt just about anything, this, however, is dependent on a whole lot of factors, one being the time the crucible is left in the heat. Also, using a larger fire extinguisher would be better off. You can check out the full tutorial for complete instructions on how this was made.
5. How To Make A Graphite Crucible
While researching the best kind of crucible that you can make from the comfort of your home, I stumbled upon this amazing tutorial that teaches you how to make a graphite crucible. This tutorial requires that you gather a couple of materials for the making process. This graphite crucible will last for a while before having to make another. Check out the video tutorial for a well-detailed explanation of how the graphite crucible was made.
6. How To Make A Crucible For Melting Aluminum
Some of you are looking for a crucible that would be able to perform a specific task, I found one, this crucible is ideal for melting aluminum. Don’t get your hopes too high, this might not be the best option for melting aluminum, but it should work for a while.
The making process is pretty much basic, you need to purchase steel that can withstand a lot of heat more than aluminum, the creator simply purchased a couple of steel fittings and welded them together.
7. Easy Homemade Crucible
Here’s an easy homemade crucible that can be done from the comfort of your home, you don’t need to spend too much to make this homemade crucible. The making process starts off with acquiring an empty propane tank. After getting your propane tank, you should push down the valve to make sure the tank is depressurized.
Now, use a saw to cut the propane tank, the job would be a whole lot easier if you had a power electric saw. After cutting the tank, use a hammer to carve the nozzle of the crucible, this process is very easy to follow. The final step will require you to drill holes in the tank and insert nuts and bolts. The full tutorial will show you how the whole process is done.
8. How To Make A Steel Crucible
I found this steel crucible while looking out for the best, and I must say, the creator did a great job putting this steel crucible together. The making process starts off with using 50-millimeter square steel tubing and a 16-millimeter steel plate for the crucible. You can make yours off scrap steel in your home.
If you are using the same steel as the creator, you will need to cut out the base of the crucible from the steel plate and get-ready the square steel tubing. Next up, you need to weld the steel plate base and steel tubing together. Building the handle comes next, however, this process is quite easy.
This crucible is only ideal for melting aluminium, anything above 760 degrees would melt the crucible.
We have come to the end of this guide on how to make a DIY crucible, most of the crucibles listed in this article are very easy to make and even way cheaper than buying a crucible from stores online. Also, most crucibles sold online are not as strong as homemade crucibles.
You also need to know that the crucible you build will not last forever, after a couple of uses, you might need to make a new one for yourself, that shouldn’t be a problem because most of the crucibles cost $0 to make.
