new news

I have some news to share with you guys. I have been blogging for over a year and thus far have decided that I did not want sponsors or ads on my blog. Nothing against it, I just have not wanted to devote the time and visual space on my blog to that.

I have been reviewing my options for making a bit of money from this little blog of mine. Is it poor taste to talk about that? Maybe, but I want to be honest and open with you rather than skirting the issue. I purchase all of my own supplies, sponsor my own giveaways, and pay for my blog design and domain name. I'm not complaining - I enjoy doing this. I just think it would be nice to have this blog start to support itself and begin to stand on it's own feet.

Since I have the kindest blog readers, I am sure you are all understanding and hanging on my every word, waiting to learn how you can help keep this blog going. No? Well, those who balk at a-blog-making-money talk have already stopped reading anyway.

I'll get to the point. I have signed up to be an Amazon Associate.

What does that mean? It means that I earn a small percentage of every purchase made on Amazon that originates from a link on my blog. I talk about products and books on my site quite often anyway, and now, when appropriate, they will be linked to Amazon. I won't be blasting you with Amazon links, unnecessary posts, or obnoxious flashy blinky things. I intent to blend these links in seamlessly with the things I already write about. I have also added a widget to my side bar that contains some of my favorite craft books and products.

I am happy to be an Amazon Associate because it is a site I shop on quite often anyway. I enjoy the customer product reviews, pictures, descriptions, and low prices. It is a site I feel good about promoting and sharing with you.

Don't like the products I have selected as my favorites? That's ok, too. If you would like to support me through your regular, every day Amazon purchases, just click the Amazon picture above or click on one of the links in the widget on my sidebar. That link has a special code in it that says I sent you to Amazon and I will get a small amount of the purchases you make. You can make shopping through my Amazon Associate link easy by bookmarking this post and coming here to click on the Amazon button to do your shopping. It's only one extra step before you get shopping, but it will really help my blog.

Thanks for all of the love and support I get from you for this blog and thanks for reading this post.

  1. Good luck! I finally put google ads on my blog, and now I make a whopping 15 cents or so a day! I know people make hundreds a month, though. I hope you are more successful than I am ;)

  2. Since starting my blog I've made 0.63 cents total from my Google ads- I totally understand what you are saying though. Makes perfect sense. I had to start having a sponsor section- I have been putting so much time & money into blogging- it would be nice to break even. Here's to us!

  3. I have a few little blog money making things on my site. But I am not bringing in hardly anything. I have thought about doing the Amazon Associate store as well, since I love Amazon. Good luck with making a little money! I think people that don't blog don't always realize how much work it can be even though it can also be fun! Since you have a lot of followers, you could try Google Adsense in your sidebar. You would probably do better than I do, and it isn't overly obnoxious! :)

  6. I'm getting ready to monetize too. I know it's a tough decision, but you're right, the blog should at least help support itself. I hope you do well! :) I'll still be reading.

  7. I love your blog, Allison. I, for one, have no problem with you doing whatever you need to to make your blog work for you. I'll try to buy some things through your site. I know that Aimee Ray's books are on my wish list! :) Aileen
