sigh...

So, I totally wasn't into the royal wedding until like this morning.
Until I saw the dress and the church and the flower girls. And the princess wave:

I looked at about a thousand pictures today, and let me tell you - she has that wave down.

She was so elegant, and they look so happy, her sister's name is Pippa (adorable!), and it's all so dreamy.
*sigh*

Stay tuned for some crafty posts this weekend. I know I have been a bit quiet, but I plan to fix that :)

easter weekend

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend. It was rainy here ALL weekend. So we spent lots of family time indoors.

Crawling in old diaper boxes. (This is his "ta-da!" face.)

Lounging in pajamas watching the rain come down.

Coloring with new crayons.
(My artist's heart is proud - this is Sawyer's first time coloring on his own. He loved it, especially coloring on the tile floor.)

Getting all dressed up and cheesin for the camera for Easter. (When did my baby turn into a little man? Eek - time flies!)

Hope your weekend was peaceful and full of sweet memories.

five things friday: disney pictures

K, so if we are going to be friends (and I sure hope we are), you must know something about me.

I have an obsession.

No really.

I LOVE Disney World. And I am not talking about "I went to Disney World and I love it!". I am talking "I went to Disney World and now it is pretty much all I ever think about."

I am not being dramatic. I read history books about Disney, listen to Disney podcasts (geek alert!), sign up for newsletters, follow Disney fan blogs, and price Disney trips at least once a week. This obsession is MAJ.

So I thought for this five things friday I would share some of my favorite Disney pictures of our family.

1. This picture was taken In Epcot on a trip we took in 2009. This was our second trip as a couple (we went on our honeymoon in 2005) and it was a big trip for us. Anderson and I often say to each other that is was the happiest time of our life. And we really mean it.

2. I had to put this one in so I can tell you how crazy I am. I was ecstatic to meet the princesses (whatever, don't judge me). Whenever we got a chance to get a picture with the princesses and they would ask Anderson to join in I would do the panicky "No!", realize how stalkerish I probably seemed, and then muttered about how he didn't want to or something like that. YOU THINK I AM JOKING. I kicked my husband out of princess pictures because I wanted my moment, ok?

3. This was taken in 2010 on Sawyer's first trip to Disney when he was about 5 months old. I love having his first trip documented, along with the 15 or so extra pounds of baby fat I was still carrying at that time.

4. This was taken on our most recent trip in January of this year. This trip was so much fun! Sawyer got to see Mi-mi (Mickey), got his first haircut at the Magic Kingdom, Anderson and I got to live our dream and stay at the Contemporary Resort, and it was just an all around relaxing and great trip.

5. I saved the best for last. This was also taken on our trip this year. Can you see the obsession? Disney World is only written on my shirt 20 times. And on Anderson's shirt. Ha!

There you have it - 5 of my favorite Disney family pictures. It was fun to go through our pictures and relive some of our most cherished family times. Hope you enjoyed, and happy Friday!

it's about to get real

I am about to get kinda serious. Sorry if you hate this kind of thing. Just scroll down and skip right on by if you don't want to read. I don't mind :)

I was blog-hopping tonight (shocker, right) and I came across something that literally made my heart ache. It was a comment made about someone else's mothering choice. I won't say who or where on in response to what, but this is what it said:

"It is a privelege to have children and why? WHY???? would we choose to work outside the home and let someone else raise them through a daycare? especially if your whole pay check would go to PAYING that stranger to feed and care for your children? Why have them if you are going to let someone else raise them?"

ouch.
burn.
and not in a funny Ashton Kutcher kind of way.

Major burn... because I have thought these same thoughts toward myself. In the past year of me being a working mom I have fought to overcome my insecurities and fears only to have my delicate confidence come crashing down because of comments like this. This person does not know me, I am sure. I know she didn't have me in mind when she said it. But once again - ouch!

I am not trying to start a controversy or debate. I don't want a fight between stay at home moms and working moms. In fact, a working mom/SAHM debate is the last thing I am trying to accomplish. I just want to call out the hate and ask that we all stop.

Stop the mommy judging
Stop the "My way is better" game.
Stop trying to one up each other.

We all have to make choices and decisions for our family. Our family decision is that I work. And I honestly feel in my heart that I am trying to do what is best for my sweet little son. I am pretty sure most mothers are doing what they feel is best for their children. It is a personal, individual family decision. There are thousands upon thousands of family scenarios out there. I would challenge anyone to take on the task of deciding what is best for each and every one of those family situations. Don't know about you, but I am sure glad I don't have to judge what is best for someone else.

Have I mommy judged? Yes, sorry to say. Especially before I had kids I thought I had it all worked out. heh. Boy, was I wrong. No more mommy judging for me. No more judging others, no more judging myself.

It is a relief to let the judging go. It makes life easier, makes you feel lighter. Thank goodness I only have to mother my own child and not everyone else's. That would be like a billion kids and my sanity is already hanging by a thread with one :)

So moms - guess what? We are all moms. We are all muddling through the most challenging task we will ever know - raising children and shaping lives. We need each other's support - stay at home or not!

Are you with me?

tutorial: monogram key chain

First of all, I have a giveaway for a $25 Michael's card going on here.
Go check it out and enter away!
(ends April 22nd)

On to the tutorial...

Have you ever created a craft just so you could use something new that you got?
Well, I got some new Jenni Bowlin paper and I knew I wanted to use it on something cute. So I came up with these cute monogram key chains.

They are really simple and cheap to make.

Here is what you will need:

wood block things
cut out letters (I used my Cricut)
Mod Podge
small & medium key chain rings
Drill and 3/32 drill bit (not pictured)

Start by painting a thin layer of Mod Podge on one side of the block and sticking the letter on.

Paint on a few thin layers of Mod Podge over the letter, letting each coat dry in between. I chose to paint only the front side of the wood block with the letter on it.

After letting it completely dry, drill a hole near the top of the block. I used a 3/32 drill bit after experimenting with some smaller ones. Loop the ring through the hole - it is a bit tricky to fit the ring through, and pliers help with this part. After you get the ring through, that's it - you're done!

That's it - a quick, easy and totally cute project!

Great to give away. Great to make a couple for yourself.

five things friday: crafting supplies edition

I am going to start something new around here.

Every Friday I am going to do a five things post - it could be craft related, it could be family related, it could be related to something totally crazy.

This week I will be highlighting five of my favorite craft supplies. Nope, not getting any compensation for this. In fact I am pretty sure none of these companies have any idea who I am.

So, here goes.

This felt is amazing! It is so thick and dense and doesn't get all fuzzy like cheap-o felt. And the colors - amazing!

This paint is great because there are SO many colors, it can be used for so many things, and it is pretty cheap. This is what I used for the frame in my cross stitch deer decor.

I use this on everything. It is permanent and fast drying and great for when hot glue just isn't enough.

The perfect blend of girly and vintage and pretty. Here is my problem though. It is so pretty I don't want to cut it up! Anyone else have this problem? (Paper hoarder here.)

I have this one. I have a few others too. I love having a craft staple like this. A basic punch like this can be used for card making, scrapbooking, and embellishing.

There you have it. A few of my favorites.

What are some of yours?

i am being featured!

I am over here at SSB telling you a little more about why I craft and what my blog is about.

Head on over and check it out! Her blog is lots of fun - plus she is also a working mommy which I totally get. Working mommies have to stick together! So go support her great blog - say hi, leave a comment, follow her, whatever you want to do to say "You rock!"

A big thanks to Ginger for featuring me on her first Feature Friday!

pinterest anyone?

uhm, so has anyone else discovered this wonderful little thing called Pinterest?

At first, I was all "that's stupid." (sorry Pinterest!)

But I take it back and I am totally eating my words. It. is. awesome. Basically you can pin any picture you see anywhere on the web, categorize them, and the share with friends.

No more email folders full of links I emailed myself. No more folders on my desktop full of projects to try. No more printing off tutorials to do later. I can keep it all in one spot, online, easy to access.

I am still working on transferring all of my stuff over to Pinterest, but it is fun to do!

Plus they offer the option to automatically embed something you have pinned. No more linking sources. Ah, sigh of contentment.

Are you on Pinterest? I'm not really sure how all this works (being a recent non-hater), but friend me or whatever you do. I will friend you back. I love to see what others find interesting and you know I am always looking for a new project!

You can find my Pinterest link on the right side of my blog. It is one my new cute butterfly buttons :)

come on over!

I am excited! giddy, really!

My pretty new blog design is done!  I keep going to my blog to look at it and take it in. It is fresh, girly, and of course - lovely.
I am still working out some kinks - rearranging a few things, adding some stuff (like an about me section and an easy to find tutorial button), and tidying up. But the design is there and it is perfect.

If you are viewing this in a reader, click over and take a look please! You won't be sorry!

Thanks to Molly at Life Made Lovely Designs. She is great!

exciting things to come

hello readers!

A few items of business that I want to share with you.

My blog will be getting a redesign in the next week or two. I am totally excited and can't wait to see what the designers at Life Made Lovely come up with. I will for sure let you know via post when it is all done and in place (in case you are viewing in a reader).

I have plans to open an etsy shop. You can see some of my work here and here. I am excited to share my little lovelies with others. But as you etsy sellers know, it is alot of work. Designing, pricing, photographing, shipping. phew! I am working on it now, and be assured that I will also be posting when that is up and going.

Probably most exciting for you: I will be having another follower giveaway this week. My lips are sealed for now, but it is a good one! I know you will be stoked for it! If you are reading this, but not yet a follower, go ahead... follow me on Google Friend Connect. I will be posting my giveaway on Tuesday, so get ready!

Lastly, I wanted to share some photos I got done (as part of the blog redesign) by Laura of Laura King Photography. She did such a great job, that I want to share them with you - at the risk of seeming totally narcissistic. And if you are around the St. Louis area and want some awesome photos done - call Laura. She is great!

Didn't she do an awesome job?

I think I covered it all - blog remodel, etsy shop, giveaway, pics. Yep, that's all of it.

Have a great week, everyone! See you back here soon for all my exciting stuff!
