Remember when I told you when I was participating in the crochet along at Maybe Matilda?
When I signed up, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to follow through with it. oops. Are you supposed to admit that you sign up for things that you end up not doing? I sometimes do that.
But I did it. I learned to crochet and I finished the project. In fact, I made 3 cowls. what? overboard? Yeah, I know. It's how I do things.
Let's get started. We have a lot of cowls to talk about. This is what the finished Time Out cowl is supposed to look like:
Pretty, but kind of gigantic. In the words of Tim Gunn, "It's a lot of look." Thus begins my journey of crocheting three cowls.
This is my fist cowl:
It is a whole lot less look. Instead of chaining 30 stitches as the pattern calls for, I only did 24. The pattern also says to crochet to 52 inches, and I stopped at 26 inches. I like it. I will most likely wear it, but I still wanted something to sit a bit closer to my neck.
Time to try again with cowl number 2:
I chained only 21 this time and stopped and 22 inches. See how this one stands up a bit more and sits closer to my neck? This is what I wanted. But for some reason, I used the purple yarn thinking I would like it. And I do like it, but I love the mustard yellow yarn and that is the color I wanted my final cowl to be.
Third time's a charm.
Perfect! I love the color, I love the fit, and it is so soft and comfy.
In case you want me to keep going on about these cowls, you're in luck 'cause I have more pictures. Here is a little awkward side by side featuring my arm and stiff hand.
See the difference only a few stitches and a few inches makes in the size?
And here is the size difference when they are on. Not huge, but enough to make a difference.
One more?
I have a head after all!
I think I have enough cowls now. I just need to step away from the crochet hook.
p.s. I also posted this on my ravelry site. If you have ravelry, find me (allisonmae)! I need more projects to obsess over.

LOL about "I have a head after all!" Nice cowls! I like how you customized the pattern to fit your needs.
ReplyDeleteOkay, first, you are GORGEOUS and your hair is just divine :)
ReplyDeleteLove that purple one!
great job!! i have a thing for mustard yellow right now too. :) love your cowls! xo
ReplyDeleteI would have done the same thing, keep going until I got the exact look and feel I was going for! by the way so jealous that you crochet, it's something that I eventually want to get into!
ReplyDeleteHi! After hard work you finally got what you wanted. You should never give up:). The colour is really nice...hugs fr.o.m. Sweden
ReplyDeleteThose look great! I would love to learn!! I love cowls!
ReplyDeleteGreat work, Allison! And I'm with Marcia on the amazing hair . . . if mine ever gets past, like, 2 1/2 inches long maybe you should come over and teach me how to not look like a mangy pauper.
ReplyDeleteI love the cowls! They're all so pretty--I agree with you, I think the last one is my favorite, too, but they're all beautiful. And now you've got two Christmas presents ready to go, just like that ;-)
Wow I am so impressed that you made 3 cowls! I love them all! Great color choices.
ReplyDeleteI adore the mustard yellow, too. And I'm kind of kicking myself for not making mine shorter. While I was working on it, I though, gee, this seems really long. And, duh, it turned out to be really long. I like it doubled up, but I think your version is the way to go. Back to the crocheting board. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou have officially made me want to learn how to crochet!! :) -and- Love all things mustard yellow :)
ReplyDeleteGood job for following through with it, x 3!!! lol. I love them all. I agree that the shorter ones are pretty awesome. I made mine kinda in-between. Unfortunately it's not long enough to double up. If I make another one I'll make a shorter length.
ReplyDeleteLove the yellow color you chose.
The colors you chose are beautiful! Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your cowl was one I first spied on the Flickr group and got my first ever cowl-envy. :D I love the mustardy yellow. It's so great.
ReplyDeleteEnhorabuena por sus tres capuchas, son todas preciosas, los colores, medidas diferentes, wow¡¡
ReplyDeleteUn saludo.

Gorgeous! I love them all!!
ReplyDeletelove them all!! great job :)
ReplyDeleteYou really got into this! I like all three, but I think the one you chose suits you best. I shortened mine by a lot, too. And it's still plenty long. Wasn't this fun?
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the color you choose!! I want to make another one and I think I'll go with less stitches and even shorter!
ReplyDeleteOh I love them all, but the third one really is my favorite. I'm going to have to make one in that size too!
ReplyDeleteThanks so so much to all of you! You are the sweetest!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty! What a great idea... definitely makes me want to learn how to crochet. I'd save so much money in the long run! Thanks for sharing.
