never grow up

Your little hands wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter 'cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light

To you, everything's funny
You got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
Just stay this little
Oh, darling, don't you ever grow up, don't you ever grow up
It could stay this simple

I won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
No, no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up

When I first listened to the Taylor Swift Song "Never Grow Up" I bawled my eyes out.

I thought of my sweet son and his innocence and purity.
He finds joy in everything.
He is full of life and hope.

The world is going to try to change him.
Teach him things he shouldn't learn.
Make him think bad things are ok.
Try to take away his innocence and youth.

But for now, he is all mine. Little boy. Stinky and messy and wild. He gives me kisses, he holds my hand. Some day it won't be like that, and I dread that day.

So I am going to cherish his little soul and let him just be little.

  1. Now I'm crying too! I think I'm going to grab my little one and get some couch snuggling in :)

  2. You are so right to feel this way. I remember feeling that way about my little boy, who is now 26 years old. BTW, he's still a very nice boy, but the world did change him. . .

  3. oh he is so gorgeous and I totally agree - mine will be 2 on Thurs and I'm feeling very nostalgic :)

I appreciate each and every lovely comment you leave!
